Although a sequel to Dishonored 2 has not been officially announced, Smith commented that he hopes that there will be more games in the series, even if they’re likely to feature a whole new cast.
The latest expansion focuses on Billie Lurk and a plot to bring an end to the mysterious Outsider, wrapping up the storylines for the two fan-favorites once and for all. It’s unclear as to whether or not any of the original cast would appear in future installments, but Smith seems adamant that a theoretical Dishonored 3 will feature different characters in different situations.
A change of scenery could be just what the series needs right now, especially since Dishonored 2 sales are down 40% from the first game. This could well be in part due to the game’s choice to feature a continued story, and a fresh start might draw in more first-time players.
The only word on a future Dishonored title that has been announced so far are Arkane Studios’ plans for a possible Dishonored VR experience. A virtual reality title that would not be a port of the original games, last year Arkane announced it was thinking about bringing areas such as the famous Clockwork Mansion to VR in a brand-new project – though if the developer is still working on this, it has kept quiet about it for a long time.
Dishonored 2 is out now for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
