A Switch-exclusive title for the western market, Disgaea 6 marked a departure from the first five titles as it switches from its traditional sprite artwork to “chibi-style” 3D renders of the characters. The gameplay that the Disgaea is known for, including its absurdly high level and damage cap, remains intact although Disgaea 6 is developed with newcomers in mind.

A trailer announcing bonus content for Disgaea 6 was released by NIS America today, following a word from the president of NIS and creator of the Disgaea series, Sohei Niikawa. Dressed in a Prinny outfit, the mascot of the Disgaea series, Niikawa reflects on the series 18-year history. Humbled by the success of the series, he admits that Disgaea was never expected to be successful outside of Japan much less see a release outside of the region.

The surprise success of the original and its subsequent titles encouraged him and his staff to continue pushing the series towards the western market as they begin work on Disgaea 7 onward. The bonus content featured in the latter half of the trailer marks the return of Disgaea 2 protagonists Adell and Rozalin. Girl Laharl, first featured in Disgaea D2, and Asagi, a character featured prominently in several NIS titles, were also announced. The four bonus characters are free DLC for players who purchase Disgaea 6, with a limited edition also announced.

Disgaea 6: Defiance of Destiny releases on June 26 for the Switch.
